Brief information about dahlias

Variegated and colorful flowers have a second little-known name - "dahlia". Both forms (dahlia and dahlia) come from surnames famous botanists Dahl and Georgi.

  • tall - up to 150 cm.

  • Lambada is a species with semi-double flowers, colored in two shades. In the middle there is a creamy color, which turns into light pink towards the edges. The flowering period lasts from June to October. For the winter, the tubers are dug up and placed in boxes of peat, as shown in the picture.

Cactus

A variety of dahlias, characterized by large buds with an unusual shape of petals - twisted into a tube. Varieties of cactus dalys are distinguished by unusual characteristics and among them you can find any culture - from dwarf to tall... They are great for decorating flower beds and growing in pots, as evidenced by numerous photos. This culture is perennial, and therefore, unlike annual dalii, it is not dug up in the fall.

  • What does the dahlia variety look like?Stars lady is a large variety with buds up to 15 cm in diameter. The dwarf culture is distinguished by lush buds of a delicate white-pink hue. Dahlia grows best in open areas, and its gorgeous flowers look perfect in a border composition.
  • Park Record is a variety with large buds up to 18 cm in diameter. The dwarf bush does not grow more than 50 cm. The flowering time is from July to September, and the buds can bloom several times during the season. The bright shade of distance attracts the eye and pleases with a rich orange shade. No description can convey the beauty of a flower better than a photo or a picture.

Semi-cactus varieties

This variety of dahlia is referred to as a terry culture. The transitional form from cactus to decorative is characterized by large buds up to 30 cm in diameter... Starting from the middle of the achieved length, the petals are twisted into a tube. The most common types of such dahlias are:

  • Mick's Peppermint is a medium-sized plant with a stem up to 130 cm in height. The flower size reaches 20 cm. Dahlias are colored with a milky shade interspersed with a purple or pink hue. It prefers to grow in a windless, sunny area, and as an annual plant does not hibernate in the ground. Flowering occurs in several stages from July to October.
  • Aspen is a low-growing dahlia species, the height of which does not exceed 60 cm. The flower is small and the buds grow up to 10 cm in diameter. Dahlias of this variety are colored rich white. There are several flowering stages and they all last for two to three weeks from mid-summer to September.

Spherical

An annual species of dahlia with lush flowers. The diameter of the buds reaches 15 cm, and the shape of the flower resembles a ball. Most of the varieties are medium-sized, and therefore in height reaches no more than 20 cm... Let's dwell on some types of such dahlias in more detail:

  • Beautiful dahliasBoom Boom Purple is a dahlia with large flowers up to 10 cm in diameter. The bright purple color of the culture can be admired from mid-summer to early autumn. The plant can bloom a couple of times during the season and is used in a single or border composition.
  • Funny Face is an interesting type of dahlia that blooms until September from mid-summer. Large yellow buds are characterized by red strokes on the petals, twisted into a tube. The stem height reaches one meter.
  • Marble Ball is a large dahlia with buds up to 15 cm in diameter and a stem length up to 1 meter. The buds are colored milky white, diluted with delicate touches of purple. Thanks to this color, dahlias are used in single compositions and in bouquets. It is better to plant them in lighted areas without drafts. The soil for the culture is mulched with peat.

Pompom

Dahlia of this species are presented in a huge range of colors. The buds are terry, and their petals curl inward or are arranged one above the other, according to the principle of tiles.

The most common type of pompom dahlia is the "Sunny Boy". Its buds reach 12 cm in size, and the stem is high stretches up to 100 cm... These dahlias are colored yellow and the tips are bright orange. Using them in a complex planting, they should be planted near red and white flowers.
